NEW Annan Athletic striker Joel Mumbongo wants to help fire the club back into League One.

The 26-year-old Swedish born forward became Wullie Gibson’s first new signing of the season after penning a one year deal at Galabank last week.

Mumbongo played his football at Dumbarton last season, previously he had spent time at Queen of the South and Hamilton.

Prior to moving to Scotland he gained experience with the development team at Burnley. The three year spell led to him gaining some minutes in the Premier League.

He has also turned out in the English Football League for both Accrington Stanley and Tranmere Rovers.

Mumbongo said: “I’m very excited to get going and get involved in the games.

“There has been some contact between my agent and Annan and when we looked at the options, I felt like Annan was a good move for me.
“I am familiar with the team and the style of playing because of the amount of times I have played against Annan and it’s always been a team that is difficult to face.

“I am a powerful striker and I will bring a dynamic and physical presence up top.

“I’m a physical guy, I like to run in behind and use my pace and my power, that’s who I am as a player. I’m someone who gives my all for the team.

“I’m not scared to make mistakes and I am someone that enjoys giving defenders a hard time.

“My goal for the season is to win – as simple as that. To win and get promoted.

“The thing I am looking forward to the most this season is winning. I am going in with the mindset of finishing top of the league and I believe we are more than capable of doing that.”

Athletic fell to a 2-0 defeat away to full-time Championship outfit Queen’s Park in a friendly match on Tuesday night.

The Black and Golds line-up featured several trialists.

Tomorrow afternoon the team return to Galabank for another difficult fixture against Greenock Morton.
