A WHEELCHAIR athlete from Creetown is making his final push to fundraise for the UK’s national wheelchair sport charity.
John McClelland is taking part in the WheelPower Winter Walk and Push challenge for 2024, which encourages wheelchair users to get out and about during winter and walk or push 75 kilometres throughout January.
So far the medal-winning wheelchair curler has completed over 30 kilometres and has raised £95, going out most days accompanied by his wife Sue.
John said: I’m just trying to raise some money and awareness of a great charity that has helped so many people over the years,
“They helped me with online fitness classes after my stroke diagnosis. When my physio finished I contacted them and they added me to their tai chi and yoga to try and build up my strength and balance.
“They had previously helped me with fitness when I first got long covid and got me going so I just wanted to give something back.”
WheelPower is the national charity for wheelchair sport and has been providing opportunities for people with physical impairments to take part in sport for over 75 years. Based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the home of the Paralympic movement, WheelPower is at the heart of wheelchair sport.
