AWARENESS of secondary breast cancer is being raised at a monthly ‘tea and chat’ support group in Dumfries.
It is hosted by Sarah McDiarmid, above, who is herself a patient and also an ambassador for the Make 2nds Count charity,
The gatherings are aimed at patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, both women and men from the community and beyond who are affected by this little-known, devastating disease.
It’s a chance for them to share experiences and advice and widen their support network.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “This is a vital service for the community and is expected to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by secondary breast cancer, which will also ensure they know they are not alone on this journey.
“An estimated 61,000 men and women in the UK are living with this incurable disease – with an estimated 1000 lives lost each month – and symptoms can vary from person to person. It has a devastating impact on people affected and their families, yet many of the general public have never heard of it.”
The group will be held on the second Friday of each month from 12 – 2pm at The Usual Place, Academy Street in Dumfries.
