A DUMFRIES nursery has scooped a top national care award.

Kids Ahoy Nursery, based in St Michael Street, has won National Day Nurseries Association’s (NDNA) Nursery of the Year for Scotland – and is now in the running for the UK title at the NDNA Nursery Awards on June 11.
Scores of parents wrote glowing testimonies to help the childcare provider win the accolade, which they will collect from pop star and TV presenter Toyah Willcox next month.
Owner Elizabeth Blount said: “We are delighted to be singled out as Scotland’s best nursery for 2015 and thrilled that we could win the overall UK accolade as well.
“This is a great boost for the staff and children here, something for us all to be really proud of.”
Judges reported that the children at Kids Ahoy were happy and settled and the staff were calm and confident.
They noted that the fabulous team provide a wide range of activities, from helping the chef to make soup to feeding and cleaning out the resident rabbit Pumpkin’s hutch.
Judges also observed that there has been a big focus on creating an environment which lends itself to independent learning and rooms are laid out so groups of children can enjoy everything from messy play to quiet time.
