Jury finds man guilty of sex assaults

A MAN has been found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting one girl under 16 and travelling with the intention of meeting another girl under 16 intending to engage in sexual activity involving, or in the presence of her.

In court at Dumfries, Ivan Maxwell, 44, of Whitelaw Drive, Castle Douglas, had pleaded not guilty throughout a three-day trial to committing the offences in the Stewartry area between November 2012 and June 2014.
The jury, of nine women and six men, on Tuesday returned verdicts of not proven on two other charges of having sex with one of the girls and sexually assaulting a third girl.
Sentence was deferred for background reports until January 17.
