Keiran Conchie has become only the second ever nine-year-old to win in the eight to 13 age group, scooping victory at the weekend in Craill.
Reacting to his success, dad Steven Conchie said: “It has been very very positive.
“We have been receiving a lot of social media contact on the back of this win.
“The whole family are just really happy for him and we support him.
“This is a potential talent.”
Heathhall Primary pupil Keiran, who lives in Locharbriggs, only took up racing two years ago, in August 2014, with his inspiration coming from a natural love of cars and Dumfries racing driver Ross Wylie.
And in spite of his lack of experience, Keiran has already won four races and came third in the West Scotland Cart Club Competition.
Keiran is the only member of the family to take part in racing, but his father is heavily involved as his mechanic.
Dad Steven admits the sport is dangerous, but emphasises that the safety precautions involved in a race are extensive.
He points to advances in helmet wear and track safety features which mean that the sport now has the driver’s safety as its core responsibility.
