AN EIGHT-YEAR old boy from Lochmaben has proved he’s a cut above the rest after cutting off his long locks for charity.
Logan Booth had been growing his hair out for the past four years and decided to get it cut in aid of The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as alopecia.
The idea of donating his luscious locks came after a conversation between Logan and his mum Erin. She said: “At first Logan started growing his hair out because he didn’t want a hair cut and he quite liked having long hair. One day about a year ago we were talking and I told him that sometimes people donate their hair to make wigs for children who don’t have hair because of illness, and we looked it up and saw that it costs £700 to make one wig and from then Logan decided that’s what he wanted to do.
“He loved his long hair and rocked a man bun so it really was a big thing for him.”
But his efforts have more than paid off, raising £1000 for the charity. The big chop took place last Wednesday at Hair Heaven in Lockerbie.
With his new slick hair-do, Logan was initially unrecognisable to some of his friends and classmates at the school’s Christmas concert later that day.
He has since discovered one of the downsides of having short hair: “Since his haircut he’s been wearing a scarf everyday and keeps telling me ‘you didn’t tell me I was going to be so cold’, and he’s already talking about growing it out again,” said Erin. But I really am so proud of him, he’s got such a big heart.
“He put so much effort into fundraising, he made posters and we put them put in lots of different places and I helped him write his story for the JustGiving page, he wanted to be perfect.
“He did all of it because he wanted to help a little girl somewhere get a wig of their own, it’s just so heart warming.”
