King's honours for DG trio

THREE people from the region have been recognised in King Charles III’s first New Year Honours.

Advanced nurse practitioner Pauline Brown, from Castle Douglas, is to get an MBE for services to nursing.

Thornhill farmer William Barbour is getting a BEM for services to Scottish country dancing.

And volunteer mechanic and lifeboat operations manager at Kirkcudbright Lifeboat Station William ‘John’ Collins, pictured, has been awarded a BEM too for his dedication to the RNLI and the community in the town.

He said: ‘I feel honoured to receive this award for what I’ve done for the lifeboats and the Kirkcudbright community, but we do the job because of the love of it, not for the recognition.”
