Knife found in teen search

A 14 YEAR-old boy has been charged after police found him in possession of a knife during a stop and search in Lochmaben last month.

At Lochmaben Community Council’s first meeting of 2021 on Monday, chairman Colin Davidson gave a local crime update on behalf of constable Stephen Glendinning, who reported that the male was “found in possession of a small knife following a stop and search by officers” on Tuesday, December 8 2020.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and possession of a knife.

The law states that police can use stop and search measures if they have reasonable grounds to suspect an individual has committed or is about to commit a crime, or if they have an item they should not have.

Mr Davidson remarked at the meeting: “Presumably his behaviour must have given them some cause for concern.”

Community councillor Carol Rogerson added: “I think that’s quite worrying that 14 year-olds are wandering Lochmaben with knifes.”
