Margaret Rutter picked up the accolade for her work at Annandale Distillery where she has been the main cleaner for the last few years.
After flushing away the rest of the competition in her category, she said: “I found out last week. I was crying when they gave me the certificate.
“Lee (the distillery’s head of marketing) came in with a bunch of daffodils. He said it was just a wee present, five minutes later he came back with the certificate.”
Margaret has been a cleaner for over 25 years and through her work for Criffel Cleaning, she is a well known face at various businesses across Annan.
She added: “I take pride in my work, I’m 73 and I’ve no plans to retire!
“I like the staff and I like to make sure I look after the public.”
The plush restrooms at the award-winning whisky distillery are certainly a site to behold.
They are clean, modern, colourful and have everything you need when nature calls. There is even music playing through the speakers.
The lavatory was named the National Category Winner for Scotland in the leisure category, receiving a Platinum Plus Award for its exceptional facilities.
Meanwhile, Annandale Distillery’s sister site, The Globe Inn, also scored an outstanding achievement at the ‘Toilet Oscars’.
The historic Dumfries pub and restaurant achieved a diamond grading and secured the titles of hospitality market sector award winner and heritage category award winner.
The Loo of the Year Awards, established over 35 years ago, are a benchmark of excellence for ‘away from home’ washrooms across the UK.
