Largest jellyfish in UK swept ashore

SEVERAL Barrel Jellyfish, also known as Dustbin-lid Jellyfish, washed ashore at RSPB Mersehead during Sunday’s high tide, pictured.

Commenting, RSPB Dumfries and Galloway said: “The strong onshore wind today probably had a part to play in the number seen.

“These incredible creatures are the largest jellyfish in the UK. Feeding on plankton in shallow waters, they can easily become stranded as they misjudge the water depth in comparison to their huge size.”
