They overcame Lenzie by a single point following a thrilling match at Viewfield to reach the National Plate Final, which will be played at the Hive Stadium on Saturday April 19.

The Warriors, despite it being six weeks since their last outing, started off the brighter of the two sides.

And it was no surprise when they took the lead on six minutes as Jane Haren scored her 127th try for the club. She swept past the home defence to score.

They added a second try not long after. A thumping tackle from Lexie Glendinning from a scrum inside the Lenzie 22, dislodged the ball from the Lenzie scrum half.

It was pounced on by Annan’s number nine Niamh Ross, who took the ball close to the try line before Lexie dived over the line to make it 0-10, Mally McGeoch converted.

Lenzie soon hit back, a quick tap and go by the scrum half made the score 7-12. The try was converted.

With five minutes to go in the half, the Warriors managed to extend their lead as Lexie Steel crashed over in the corner following a bout of pressure on the Lenzie try line.

The home side, spurred on by the home support, took the game back to Annan in the second period.

One too many infringements led to a Warriors yellow card. Lenzie took full advantage and scored their second try of the match, 12-17.

They kept on the pressure and, with 15 minutes left, were rewarded with their third try, which tied the scores at 17-17, forcing extra time.

Two ten minute halves were played.

The Warriors were unlucky not to score when, after a great move, Ellie Smith was deemed held up by the referee after she had crashed over the try line.

But not long after, substitute Erin Ewing scored in the corner in a try that was almost a carbon copy of Lexie Steel’s earlier effort.

With the Warriors continuing to pile on the pressure, they earned a penalty in front of the posts and Mally stepped up to make it 17-25.

In the second period of overtime it was the turn of the home side to fight back.

They managed to score two quick tries and turn the scoreline around. And with less than four minutes remaining it was 31-25 in Lenzie’s favour.

To make things worse, Annan were also down to 14 again as a second yellow of the match had been awarded.

However, this team is called the Warriors for a reason. With the ten minutes up, they were camped on the Lenzie try line desperately trying to get something from the game in the dying seconds.

Then, incredibly, following a number of phases, scrum half Ross touched down for the fifth Warriors try of the match.

Vice captain McGeogh had the conversion to take with the pressure on. Scoring it would send the Warriors off to Murrayfield for the first time in their ten year history. Miss, however, and the Murrayfield dream would have to wait for another year.

But it was scored, and the Warriors clinched victory with final kick of the game!
