TIME has been called at a popular pub in Annan, while a restaurant in the town is also to close.

The Firth, in Scott Street, opened for the final time last Saturday, with landlord James Kennedy citing other business commitments as the reason for his decision.

He thanked his staff and customers for their support over the years and dozens took to social media to express their appreciation for his service.

Meanwhile, Leeann Tweedie yesterday announced the closure of Tweedie’s Empire Bar & Eatery on the High Street on August 8.

In a statement on Facebook, she said: “It’s time to hang the chef jacket up. With a heavy heart, we have decided to close the bar and restaurant.

“Due to staff shortages within the hospitality trade at the moment we have struggled to meet the needs that the business deserves.

We have definitely put our all into this and it’s now time to start taking things a bit more easy.”

She thanked customers, suppliers, local businesses, staff, family and friends for their hard work and continued support, adding: “Thanks again to everyone for your continued support. It definitely has been a journey during Covid-19, certainly one I will never forget.

“We’ve made some wonderful friends on our journey for the past eight years.

“All our present staff have secured employment/moving onto further education. I wish them all the best of luck for the future.”
