Data from 2019-2021 shows that men locally live on average to 77.4 years and women to 81.1 years. This is 20 weeks and eight weeks less, respectively, than the 2017-2019 period.

Mortality from Covid-19 was largely responsible for the fall.

In Scotland the average life expectancy at birth for males was 76.6 years and 80.8 years for females.

Scotland also had the lowest life expectancy of all UK countries and the largest impact is felt in the most deprived areas of the country.

Life expectancy was highest in Orkney Islands and lowest in Glasgow city for both males and females in 2019-2021. Most council areas have seen life expectancy fall over the last few years. Life expectancy was also higher in rural areas than urban areas.
