Lifeboat open week moves online

KIPPFORD’S Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) will host a virtual open week.

The event will start tomorrow and will run through to Sunday, August 2 on their Facebook page.

This is in place of the usual station open day which had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fundraising efforts for the station received a much-needed boost as ETB Technologies donated £1000 to the national charity and will sponsor the open week. This year’s open week will be a tad different to usual and the crew at Kippford hope that people will support their online efforts. This will include activities for children, a photo competition, a live quiz, a chance to find out more about the crew and a virtual tour of the station.

Kippford Lifeboat operations manager Gareth Jones said: “The open day is usually one of our busiest days of the year for fundraising and highlighting the work of the RNLI so we were all disappointed that it couldn’t go ahead. I’m really pleased that we are able to host a virtual open week instead and look forward to the chance to share some of our stories with the public who support us.”
