NINE-YEAR-OLD Lissa Titcombe has shown she’s a top pick when it comes to fundraising, generating £620 for the Bethany Christian Trust.
The youngster has been hitting the pavements and cycle paths throughout December for a sponsored litter pick, doing up to two hours a week for the last five weeks.
She was inspired by the book Night Bus Hero, a story that encourages children to understand and think deeply about people whose lives are impacted by homelessness, and with the help of her her mum Holly and the rest of her family, Lissa got to work.
Holly said: “Inspired by the story, she announced she wanted to do something to help homeless people. Eventually, we settled on doing a sponsored litter pick to raise money for Bethany Christian Trust and borrowed litter pickers from the local Boys Brigade group she and her brother belong to.
“She decided she wanted to be ambitious and signed herself up to do two hours for five weeks – a total of ten hours of litter picking.
“Sometimes we have been out ourselves; sometimes some of our lovely friends have joined us.”
Lissa completed her sponsored pick just before Christmas and presented the cheque to the Bethany Christian Trust.
Her proud mum Holly is delighted that Lissa was able to raise so much and is grateful the £620 is going towards a good cause. She added: “We’ve been assured the money will stay in this area and we saw a hamper that had been made up to help provide some essentials and treats for someone who has experienced homelessness.
“Lissa was also given a pack with information about the work Bethany Christian Trust do and stories about how they’ve helped people in the past.
“Another big thanks to everyone who helped support and sponsor Lissa in this project – what a staggering amount to be able to donate.”
