WORK is about to start on a £100,000 project at Castle Loch in Lochmaben.
After 18 months of fundraising, the Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust are now ready to begin replacing the old boardwalk near the castle and upgrading some path sections.
It starts this week and means that the full circuit of the loch won’t be possible for three to four weeks.
However, alternative walking routes have been drawn up. They are: On the west side loop along loch and then either Castle Hill – golf course – church or Castle Mains cottages – Marlake Cottages – cemetery – golf course – church. On the east side loop along the loch and then Halleaths caravan site and back to Lochmaben on the lane.
Anyone in the area during that time is urged to follow any instructions displayed around the reserve and from the GroundsCo team on site. Project officer Darren Flint said: “Thanks to everyone for their support and patience.”
The trust has also expressed thanks to everyone who supported their fundraising campaign over the last year, including members of the public, local groups, Russell Roof Tiles, Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Company, the Minnigap2 fund, the Hugh Fraser Foundation, The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway Council Regionwide Community Fund and Foundation Scotland.
