Lockerbie pockets top pool competition

ONE of the largest events in the eightball pool calendar will take place in Lockerbie this weekend.

Over 160 players from all over Scotland and ex-pats will gather to keenly contest the Scottish Singles Championship to be held in Lockerbie Town Hall.
The event has been attracted to Lockerbie in no small part due to the continued success of the towns pool club based within the town hall.
The championships will be run by the sport’s governing body the Scottish Eightball Pool Federation and officials from the local region.
It includes a mens, ladies, seniors events for the over 50s.
Junior events also included are the under 23s, U18s and U15 age groups.
Members of the Lockerbie Club are hoping to acquit themselves well having returned from a successful Nations Cup International event held in Dyce.
Taking part are club members and international players Alan Kirkham and Nathan Moloney in the u23 section.
Lockerbie boasts five strong contenders in the junior category Steven Graham, John Murray, Liam Rogerson, Liam Wilson and Connor Rafferty.
Lockerbie’s John Murray Sr, Chris Silver and Corries Ian Henderson will be contesting the men’s title.
The event will also feature the James McGregor Memorial Trophy, James being one of the clubs founders and the Border Classic annual event. All events are free to spectators throughout the weekend.
The pool club is held on a Monday night in the Ash room from 5.30 pm till 9 pm for players aged 11 to 23 years old.
A singles league for ages 16 plus is held on a Thursday and the club is open daily during the school holidays.
