A MOTHER-daughter duo from Canonbie are hitting their stride in their fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support
Lois Lane and her daughter Lydia have been long-time supporters of the charity and are now taking on the challenge of the Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike in September, which will see them and the rest of their fundraising team hike from Alnwick Castle, along the sweeping beaches and fishing villages of the Northumberland coast before finishing at Bamburgh Castle.
The pair have been getting creative with the fundraising with Lydia giving a second life to pre-loved books with the ‘blind date with a book’ initiative. She explained: “If you’ve been in Starbucks in Gretna lately you might’ve noticed my blind date with a book has made its debut at the drink handoff point. They’ve been really popular and are flying off the shelves and I’m over the moon to have made almost £100 with my book fundraising.”
Lois has been doing her part of the fundraising by selling her hens’ eggs but is looking forward to the challenge since the charity has such a personal significance, adding: “I will be sporting a green t-shirt again and raising funds for Macmillan, a charity that means a lot to me. When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, Macmillan offered support at a very difficult time, and when my sister underwent treatment for breast cancer in 2017 she received invaluable help and support from her local Macmillan nurse.
“I would like to raise funds so that others can benefit as I and my loved ones have.”
