Lottery's support for area revealed

THE National Lottery Community Fund has supported 195 community projects in Galloway and West Dumfries – with grants to the tune of £4,763,672.

The figures were revealed by constituency MSP Finlay Carson, who last week met with the fund organisers.

They support community-led projects to create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable, funding activities and organisations that strengthen society and improve lives.

Mr Carson said: “It is absolutely incredible how many projects in my constituency have benefitted from The National Lottery Community Fund and hopefully this will continue in the years to come.

“I would urge anyone involved in community projects to actively explore whether they could qualify for support and funding.”

He revealed that recent changes to the programme increased the amount and length of funding available so that groups can now apply for up to £20,000 over two years.

In addition, two new funding programmes were established late last year to help deliver in Scotland; Community Action and Fairer Life Chances will award, at least, £166 million to communities across Scotland over the next five years.

Third sector organisations can access grants of up to £500,000 for up to five years through the new programmes.

Funding is open to all communities and encouragement is given to community projects that tackle inequality and those in greatest need to help tackle intersectional inequalities.

Priority is given to projects that can evidence how they will reach and support people who experience poverty, disadvantage or discrimination.
