Lotto grant secures community centre

A COMMUNITY centre in Dumfries has been handed £126,000 - helping to ensure its future.

Lincluden Community Centre is one of seven recipients through the Big Lottery Fund, and is now set to carry out a thorough refurbishment with new windows, doors and lighting.
Manager Lynn Uygun said: “This funding will ensure the community centre’s future for years to come, planned works have already attracted two organisations to bring their projects to the centre.
“People from all age groups will benefit from more comfortable surroundings and we will be able to hold more community events, helping to encourage an interest and pride in the refurbished centre.”
The aim of the project is to make the centre more attractive to local people, in particular providing more creative activities for young people.
Refurbishment will include upgraded lighting, replacement windows and doors, new entrance to the centre and improved signage, repair and replacement of flooring and ceilings, refurbishment of toilet facilities, internal and external redecoration and installation of Wi-Fi.
Celebrating the award, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said: “I wish the people of Dumfries the very best as they work to bring their vision to life.”
Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed a total of four funding awards to organisations within his constituency.
He said: “I wish Lincluden Community Centre Management Committee, ia2ps, Haugh of Urr Nursery and Stranraer Academy the greatest of success and look forward to having the opportunity to visit and see the great work they can achieve with this extra funding boost.”
