Major milestone for town’s lifeboat

SPECIAL celebrations were held last Saturday to mark the 50th anniversary of Stranraer’s RNLI lifeboat.

Crew members, their families and representatives from the RNLI all gathered to mark the occasion but also to pay tribute to the courageous people who have served the emergency service over its tenure.

Sean Hannah, lifeboat operations manager at Stranraer said: “For half a century, Stranraer lifeboat has been a beacon of hope and safety, launching into treacherous waters to save lives. Each service call undertaken by the crew embodies the spirit of bravery, sacrifice, and community service.

“We honor those who came before us who set the standard of excellence and dedication. Their legacy is the foundation upon which we stand today.

“To the current crew, your commitment ensures that this legacy continues to thrive.

“We also remember those who couldn’t be with us on the milestone. Their courage will never be forgotten, and their memory inspires us to carry forward with unwavering resolve.

“As we look to the future, we renew our commitment to support and uphold the vital work of the RNLI and its crew. Together, we will ensure that Stranraer Lifeboat Station remains a symbol of hope for many more years to come.”
