Man airlifted after A75 smash

A DOG died and a man was left with life threatening injuries after a three vehicle crash on the A75 last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Dunragit at about 6.30 pm after the collision involving a white Scania R580 HGV, a Claas 420 Arion tractor with a trailer and a grey Toyota Rav 4 car.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Toyota was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. His injuries are described as life-threatening.

One of four dogs in his car died at the scene and the three others have been checked by a vet and taken to kennels.

A 39-year-old man driving the lorry was taken to Galloway Community Hospital as a precaution and later released, but the tractor driver, a 20-year-old man, was not injured.

The road was closed and re-opened around 6.20 am today.

Police are appealing for information and Sergeant Neil Moffat said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

“If you were in the area at the time and have information, including dash-cam, that could assist with our investigation then please make contact with us.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3306 of 31 July, 2024.
