Man arrested after rural assault

POLICE are investigating after a man was assaulted and his vehicle stolen near Waterbeck last night. It happened at about 9.25 pm near Winterhope, on the B7068 - and another man has been arrested. The road is still closed today and police remain at the scene, with a police helicopter also overhead. The incident is thought to be connected to major police activity in Eaglesfield last night as well. A police spokesperson said: "Around 9.25 pm on Saturday, we received a report of a man having his vehicle stolen after he was stopped and assaulted by another man on the B7068. He was taken to hospital to be checked over. "A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing."
