Man charged after drugs find

A 43-year-old man appeared in court on Wednesday after police discovered £43,000 of cannabis in his vehicle near Johnstonebridge.

Officers acting on intelligence stopped the car on the M74 at 2.30 pm on Tuesday and recovered the drugs.

The driver was arrested and charged in connection and released on an undertaking to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

Commenting on the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Laura Sands said: “Drugs cause misery in our communities and Police Scotland is committed to bringing those responsible for the manufacture and supply of illegal substances to justice.

“The public has an important role to assist with this and we would urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs to get in touch with us via 101.”
