Martin tastes success at world gelato festival

A FULL of flavour recipe helped secure a runners-up spot for Lochmaben’s Martin Crolla in the World Gelato Masters Festival this week.

He took part in the Manchester heat of the event on Tuesday, tasting success with his white chocolate and honey gelato with raspberry variegato and pistachio crema.

Martin said: “I named my creation, Lorenzo. I dedicated it to my father who I owe everything to and for teaching me the art of artisan gelato.

“I came up against some of the UK’s best gelato chefs who were unbelievably talented. In the words of the organisers, “one of the most competitive heats ever”.

“I was awarded a runners-up prize, of which I am incredibly proud. I am proud to have represented my family, my gelateria and my town.”

He congratulated all the entrants and thanked those involved for making it “a wonderful day”, adding: “It was a truly unforgettable day and a dream come true to be part of.”
