Masked home invaders threaten town couple

A COUPLE were terrorised in their Dumfries home on Wednesday night by two men who forced their way in, threatened them, and then made off with cash.

Police are now hunting the stocky men who concealed their faces as they carried out the crime in Golf Avenue at about 11.10 pm.

Detective Inspector Dean Little at Dumfries said: “This is a despicable crime to have happened in the confines of the home of this couple.”

Police say the 47-year-old man and his 38-year-old wife were at home when two men forced their way into their flat, threatened them and then robbed the couple of a quantity of cash.

DI Little said: “Whilst they would not appear to have been injured during the commission of this crime, they have been badly shaken up as a result.”

Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries as they pursue the men.

The first is described as white, about 5’5” to 5’7” tall with a stocky build.

He was wearing a green hooded jacket with fur around the parka-style hood and blue jeans. His face was covered with a scarf and he spoke with a Scottish accent.

The second man is described as being white, but smaller than the first, perhaps about 5’3” tall with a muscular build.

He was wearing a cream coloured parka style jacket and blue jeans.

The second man also had his face covered by a scarf or similar and spoke with an Irish accent.

DI Little said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the Golf Avenue area to get in touch with us at Dumfries on the 101 number if they saw or heard anything suspicious.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone in the area who may have any private CCTV footage which might have captured images of these two men last night.

“Likewise we would like to hear from anyone who may have any information which might assist us in catching those responsible for this alarming crime.

“Thankfully crimes such as this are a rarity in Dumfries, and we are determined to catch those responsible.”
