The 16-year-old, from Perthshire, who cannot be named because of reporting restrictions, was also fined £100 on Friday after admitting committing the offence at a Scottish cup-tie between Queen of the South and St Johnstone, earlier this year.
The court was told that police had moved in to investigate a pall of smoke among St Johnstone supporters and later identified the youth through CCTV.
The youth’s solicitor said the firework had been brought to the ground by another person who lit it and gave it to him and he then dropped it when it burnt his fingers.
