Meat free meals now on offer

PLANT-based meal options are now being made available to pupils in both primary and secondary schools in the region.

Council officials confirmed there has been a rollout to provide more options to kids with different dietary needs.

It comes after, at past education committee meetings, Lochar Councillor Tracey Little, pictured, pushed for pupils who are vegetarian or vegan to be given plant-based food options. She first asked for this to be introduced back in 2021 – and then requested an update in September last year.

And council statistics reveal that the current uptake of traditional meals is 94 per cent and plant-based options is six per cent.
