Mens Shed open new premises
NEW HOME . . . MSP Emma Harper with Dumfries “shedders” as they celebrated the opening of their new base this week

A DUMFRIES-based support group for men has opened the doors to their new premises.

It comes following the successful community asset transfer of former council offices at Cresswell Gardens to members of the Dumfries Mens Shed, who have since transformed the building into their new workshop.

It will now be utilised as a space for the group’s meetings, repair work and future projects.

The new facility also has a library, games room and kitchen.

South Scotland MSP Emma Harper opened the shed on Monday and was joined by executive officer of the Scottish Men’s Shed Association, Jason Schroeder, Dumfries Men’s Shed Chair, Ken Shires, Secretary Brian Kerr as well as members of the shed and local community.

Ms Harper was given a tour of the new facility and offered to continue supporting the group at Holyrood.

Commenting afterward, she said: “It was great to be invited along to officially open the new premises of the Dumfries Men’s Shed. I met the fantastic ‘Shedders’ who have done brilliant work in being the first Men’s Shed in Scotland to successfully obtain their premises through a Community Asset Transfer. I have been a supporter of Men’s Sheds since my election in 2016, and I have spoken in debates and visited our other Men’s Sheds across our region.”
