DUMFRIES-BORN musician Liam Shortall has been shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.
The award promotes the best of UK and Irish music and the artists who produce it. This is done through the celebration of the 12 ‘Albums of the Year’, recognising artistic achievement across a range of contemporary music genres.
Liam, below, known professionally as Corto.Alto, released his debut album, ‘Bad With Names’ last year, showcasing his ability to edit improvised jam sessions into taut and compelling songs, full of skittering beats, squelchy synths and monstrous riffs.
He is delighted to have been shortlisted for the award and took to social media yesterday to celebrate, saying: “I still can’t believe it, but my debut album ‘Bad With Names’ has been shortlisted for this year’s Mercury Prize
“Thank you to everyone who worked on this record, and to everyone who has supported and listened to my music since starting this project in 2019.
“This album was recorded with some of my favourite people in the world, across two years in my flat in the southside of Glasgow.
“Congrats to the other nominees and once again thank you to the judges at Mercury Prize for recognising my album in this year’s shortlist.”
The overall winner of the 2024 Mercury Prize will be revealed in September.
