Ministers agree to windfarm

ANOTHER windfarm is set to be built in Galloway after planning permission was granted by Scottish Ministers.

Construction on the Mid Moile windfarm, put forward by EnergieKontor, is set to begin after ministers granted their consent for the scheme 2.5 kilometre east of Cairnryan. The wind farm will have a generating capacity of around 99 MW, comprising 14 wind turbines with a ground to blade tip height of between 200 and 230 metres and associated infrastructure.

Two Wigtownshire community councils submitted responses to the government’s Energy Consensus Unit (ECU). Cairnryan Community Council were largely unopposed to the development but shared concerns about traffic during the construction of the development.

Whereas New Luce Community Council submitted a lengthy response to ECU expressing concerns about the height of turbines and cumulative effect on the area. Their submission read: “We note that the number of turbines proposed for the development has been reduced, and that the base-to-blade-tip height of some of the turbines has been reduced. However, more than half of the turbines remain at 230 m, which we consider to be a whole order of magnitude larger than any existing turbines in or near our community area.

“We ask whether such a height for onshore locations is really necessary, or indeed appropriate?

“We would ask EnergieKontor to moderate their proposals in the light of matters we have raised.”
