The iconic Academy Road building is being transformed into luxury accommodation for the over 50s.
And this weekend the old school, which was built in 1932, will be opened to the public for prospective buyers to tour.
But before the grand unveiling, a special guest, in the form of retired rector Jeff Brown, was given a VIP tour.
Mr Brown, who received an OBE for services to education, played a fundamental role in upgrading Moffat Academy to a senior school.
Serving as head teacher from 1991 until the school closed its doors in 2009, Jeff has a special connection with the site, which he thought of as ‘a home from home’.
He said: “Moffat is an amazing community and this development will help light up the town. For too long this building was left to gradually become a blight to the town but this development is breathing new life into a place that houses so many special memories to so many in our community.”
He added: “It made me sad beyond words to see the school start to perish, when it had been a real hub for the community for so long.
“I’m really happy to see how much of the school’s special features, like the windows and the amazing light they bring, have been retained.
“Moffat is an amazing community and whether this building attracts nostalgic former pupils as residents or newcomers, it will be a great home within a great community for anyone.”
The accommodation will boast 19 one bedroom apartments and seven two bedroom, with the housing set in landscaped grounds with a mix of private and communal gardens, along with a community room with library, TV and tea and coffee bar.
The apartments within the Category (C) listed building retain many of the property’s original features, and the whole building has been given a new lease of life and a new purpose as a safe, secure and stylish place to live for older like minded people.
Showrooms which feature open plan living, wet rooms and contemporary kitchens, will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
