A MOFFAT man and his family have now raised thousands for two hospitals that helped save his life.
Billy Garrett was only given months to live after he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare blood cancer, in November 2021. But thanks to a lifesaving stem cell transplant, from his son Alan, Billy is on the mend.
And the Garrett family have raised money for the two hospitals that helped Billy through his journey, to say thanks.
They held a charity coffee morning and dance at Moffat Town Hall last October and last week, Billy, 64, and his wife Anne handed over £2700 of the proceeds to the oncology and haematology department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and another £2600 to the Ward 4B transplant unit at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Anne added: “It was great for Billy and I to go back to the hospitals to say thanks for help save his life and to hand over the money.
“We are so grateful to both hospitals and for everyone who was involved in the coffee morning and dance. It feels amazing to give something back.”
