Moffat revels in red hot rally atmosphere

‘YOU’RE welcome back any time’ — says Moffat after hosting the RSAC Scottish Rally grand finale at the weekend.

Local hero David Bogie won Saturday’s rally and celebrated withachampagne spray finish at Moffat High Street.

Supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council, almost 100 cars started the event which, after the traditional Dumfries ceremonial start, sawashift to a new rally base in Lockerbie Lorry Park.

Moffat played host to the British Championship finish celebrations which drew hundreds of eager spectators, all keen to watch local man Bogie celebrate with co-driver Kevin Rae.

Lord Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire Fiona Armstrong was on hand to present the awards to the victors. This was Moffat’s debut as finale hosts, and chairman of the town’s community council Bob Opray says he hopes the town will play host for years to come.

He said: “It was absolutely fantastic, such a great success. “We were told quite last minute that Moffat would be hosting the finish line, but we rallied and made sure the whole town was aware so we had a great turn out.”

He added: “I’ve already emailed the RSAC to let them know Moffat would love to play hosts again next year.”

And fun was in no short supply for eager spectators on the day, who, thanks to event sponsor Prestone, were treated to a go on the BRC Rally Simulator and givenataste of driver life.

The person who sets the fastest simulator time over the weekend of the RSAC Scottish Rally walked away withaprize of a rally experience at a rally school.

And if they are fastest across the season they will win a unique VIP visit to the UK’s World Rally Championship round in Wales in October
