A WARD has been closed at Midpark Hospital in Dumfries after five covid cases were detected among patients.
New admissions and routine visiting have been suspended at the Glencairn Ward, which is an acute mental health ward for older adult patients.
The situation will be reviewed regularly with an aim to open up admissions and visiting as early as possible – at present visiting is only allowed for end-of-life patients.
An NHS spokesman said: “It is possible that some services at Midpark may be affected by the actions which are being undertaken, and anyone affected by that will be contacted directly.
“This comes as covid continues to spread in the community. Though the spread of the new Omicron variant is slowing, many new cases are continuing to emerge across Dumfries and Galloway. Outbreaks are also being managed in several care homes across the region.”
Meanwhile, five virus cases have also been confirmed in patients at Lochmaben Community Hospital.
Although the hospital remains open to visitors, it is possible that some services may be affected by the actions which are being undertaken,
and anyone affected by that will be contacted directly.
