Mountain man raises £1500 for charity

DAVE Johnstone is on top of the world after raising £1505 by climbing Ben Nevis.

He scaled the UK’s highest peak last week with friend Thomas Herdman in five hours and nine minutes.

His efforts were in aid of the Brittle Bone Society, as it’s a condition that both his wife Ashley and baby son Odin suffer from.

Explaining how it went, Dave, from Lockerbie, said: “The conditions were pretty good to be fair. A bit overcast to start with but the sun soon came out. The higher we got visibility reduced. We stopped about half way to have a breather. We reached the top at around 1 and had a bite to eat and took some pictures. We got back down at 4 pm. Total walking time five hours nine minutes according to Strava.

“What kept me going was that I didn’t want to let my son, Odin, and wife Ashley down. Also, having my personal trainer Thomas spurring me on really helped.”

The pair are now discussing doing something for his daughter, but have not yet settled on a challenge.

And Dave would also love to do more fundraisers in future for the Brittle Bone Society – and is even contemplating getting rid of his infamous beard, quipping: “We shall see!”
