Mystery woman sparks concern
AN investigation has been launched after a bedraggled Vietnamese woman sought refuge at a house in Annan on Sunday night.
The occupants were alerted by loud banging on the door at about 10.30 pm that evening and they opened it to find her there, dressed in rags and seeking assistance.
Unable to speak much English, the woman, who’s thought to be in her 30s, was only able to indicate she was from Vietnam.
The startled householders took her in
and cared for her, giving her fresh and warm clothes, and food and drink, until police arrived.
Not wishing to be named, they said she was thirsty and hungry and described her as ‘terrified’.
Officers took her away and they’ve had no further contact, but are keen to know she’s ok and hoping to be able to pass on a message of kindness.
The experience has left those involved shaken up and wondering how she came to be on their doorstep.
One of the family said: “Apparently she just kept running.
“It’s like something off a movie. I am finding the whole thing quite surreal. I cried for hours afterwards. It’s broken my heart.”
Commenting on the turn of events, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30 pm on Sunday, 5 October, 2025, we received a report of concern for a person at Dykes Avenue, Annan.
“Officers attended and traced a woman who is now being supported by partner agencies.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
“Anyone with information or who also saw the woman, is asked to call 101 quoting reference 3572 of 5 October, 2025.”
