National Park: the young farmers’ view

YOUNG Farmers’ leaders in the region have released a statement setting out their position on the proposed Galloway National Park.

John McCulloch, chair of Dumfries and Galloway District of Young Farmers Clubs, above, said: “After discussions with a number of our members, we understand the strength of feeling which exists within our membership regarding the proposal for a national park in Dumfries and Galloway.

“As a membership organisation, representing six clubs across the district, we realise that there will inevitably be members on both sides of the debate.

“At this time we are following the lead of NFU Scotland and various other industry organisations who are working hard to gather the views of those living in our area and ensure they are being heard at the highest level.

“As always, we will be ensuring that the views of our members are represented within these discussions.

“We would encourage any members with strong feelings on this issue to attend the open meetings and engage with any consultations which are being held.”
