HEADSHIP . . . Jim Brown has been appointed as the new rector of Annan Academy
And having held the acting headship position since classes resumed after the summer break in August, Jim Brown feels he is well equipped to move the 820 pupil school onto the next stage in its development.
The father-of-two, who joined the school in January 2012 as depute rector, said: “I’m absolutely delighted and very proud to be the new rector of Annan Academy and I’m really looking forward to building relationships with the wider school community.
“I think with any community, and particularly with a school that is so firmly placed at the centre of its community, we have to listen to our youngsters, parents and the wider community about what the school means to them and how we will continue to shape the education of our young people to meet the needs of the 21st century workplace.”
Mr Brown’s progression into the academic field started whilst working at Glasgow University, where he was tasked to work alongside schools from Lothian and Tayside.
And following his teacher training, where he specialised in biology, he was based at
various schools in London and Edinburgh.
He held posts including head of pupil support and head of science ahead of being appointed the role of depute rector – the position he continued upon his move to Annan Academy.
Mr Brown, who enjoys spending time with his two young children — aged three and five – as well as music and sport, is now keen to meet townsfolk at various events that will be held in the school over the coming weeks.
Looking ahead to the school’s development, he added: “After four years here I very much know the strengths of the school and want to build on what already exists, and plan to continue putting the young people at the centre of all our work.
“I have learned a huge amount in the time I have been here and have a huge amount of respect for the previous rector Frank Davis.”
