New box office for town’s theatre

THEATRE fans in Moffat will now have to purchase their tickets from The Corner Gallery.

For the past seven years Cara Gael Gifts has acted as the Old Well Theatre’s box office, but the Cara Gael’s owner George Edward is retiring and the shop is closing its doors at the end of the month.

But another Moffat business has been waiting in the wings to take over the theatre’s box office duties. The Corner Gallery was first established in 1996 by Moffat resident Anne Chaudhry and is now run by her daughter Fiona who is delighted to be taking on the role, she said: “It’s a delight to be taking on the box office duties from George at Cara Gael. I have been part of a number of pantomime productions myself as a child. My mother Anne Chaudhry and my younger brother Danny enjoyed significantly more exposure, regularly appearing on the stage at the Old Well Theatre in the 1980s.

“Needless to say, only one of them has continued in this line of work!”

Committee member Norma Fears added: “The Old Well Theatre is pleased to announce that Fiona Bina Chaudhry, the owner of The Corner Gallery in the town, has agreed to take on the theatre box office.

“The theatre is very grateful to George, for his support over the years. “The first event the new box office will be selling tickets for is a Moffat Movies film – Matilda the Musical on Saturday June 3.”

Fiona and the Old Well Theatre’s treasurer Lorne Cambell presented George Edward with token of their gratitude on Friday for all his work on behalf of the theatre over the years.
