LADIES in Dumfries who have been inspired by the Women’s World Cup are being urged to join a local community football league.

Staff at Leisure Leagues, who operate a competition at Dumfries High School on Monday’s, are reporting a massive increase in the amount of female players who are signing up.
And the increase in participation has led to the company starting the first ever all ladies league in Spalding, Lincolnshire.
Gemma Smith, of the firm, said: “There is no doubt whatsoever that the Women’s World Cup will be seen as a watershed moment in the history of not just the women’s game, but football in general, and the increase in interest we have seen since England’s tremendous run to the semi-finals has been phenomenal. We expect to be bringing the ladies leagues to Dumfries very soon.”
