New plan to get region moving
ACTIVE travel is the latest priority for Dumfries and Galloway Council, with a refreshed plan in place for the next five years.
The new strategy will incorporate recent data to get a better idea of what actions are needed to increase walking, cycling and healthy lifestyles across the area.
The five year plan aims to enhance the state of infrastructure across the region, monitor the progress of actions taken and develop stronger partnerships with key stakeholders.
It also aligns with national aims to decarbonise transport and achieve compact and sustainable communities.
Chairman of communities committee Councillor Andy Ferguson, said: “The new Active Travel Strategy for Dumfries and Galloway is based on the need to work closely with partners and local communities to come up with impactful and feasible solutions for our region.
“But there is no team without the people’s involvement and engagement, so we invite all sectors of the community to take part in the consultation.”
An online survey will be open until the 27 February and can be found at www.dumgal.gov.uk/consultations.
Community Conversations will take place during the second week of February. For more information and details, go to www.dumgal.gov.uk/consultations.
