Newlyweds kiss and make up at court

A NEWLYWED couple embraced each other outside a court after their wedding night just didn’t turn out as planned when the bridegroom ended up in a police cell.

For just hours after the wedding at Gretna, police were called to the couple’s hotel where groom James Wye was heard banging on the door of his bride’s room shouting and swearing and demanding entry.
And Dumfries Sheriff Court was today told that police were called by hotel staff and he eventually directed a tirade at the officers.
In the dock, Wye, 40, from Telford, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Gables Hotel on Annan Road in Gretna following the wedding on Tuesday by  repeatedly banging on doors.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Loreburn Street Police Station shouting and swearing at police officers in a racist manner.
Fiscal depute Jennifer McGill said the problems started about 10pm and a short time later complaints were received about him shouting and swearing in his room.
When taken to the police station he shouted and swore at officers.
Solicitor Liz Dougan said the couple had been together for 13 years and Wye had been drinking and had little recollection of what had happened
He was fined £300.
Outside the court as the couple fell into each others arms and kissed, Wye produced the wedding ring from his pocket and slipped it on his wife’s finger.
Both said: “We just don’t remember what happened: we are not used to drinking and we had both been taking spirits and it just left us with everything blank.”
