Next pull pod plans

PLANS to create customer collection pods in Dumfries have been pulled by retail giant Next.

The chain had hoped to install pods at Cuckoo Bridge Retail Park but have now withdrawn their planning bid.

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s planning of cers, last month, advised the retailer to withdraw their pod plans or risk having them refused.

The local authority disagreed with Next’s suggestion that the pod would meet the criteria for a storage or dis-

tribution unit for planning purposes, and had fundamental concerns about the principle and design quality of the development.

Plans submitted showed the 108 square metre pod would be a mod- ular structure comprised of six units sited together.

Two members of the public also submitted objections on the grounds that there were no proposals to pro- vide provision for cyclists, pedes- trians or the disabled in the plans.
