A BY-ELECTION is to be held next month in a bid to restart Lockerbie Community Council.
Dumfries and Galloway Council this week announced they have received a valid petition from the community for such action, signed by over 20 residents.
And now they are calling for nominations from potential members.
Anyone interested has until Monday February 5 to lodge their bid with the returning officer at the local authority.
A minimum of six people are needed for it to go ahead and the maximum permitted membership is 17.
If over 17 people express an interest then a ballot box election will be held, with February 28 scheduled as the date.
To become a community councillor, you must be over 16, live in the Lockerbie area and be on the electoral register.

Annandale North Councillor, and leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Gail Macgregor is urging townsfolk to get involved. She said: “I hope many do and a rich mix of what Lockerbie needs re representation, It’s not overly arduous if managed well and proportionally with other members.”
The previous community council was wound up in November following the resignation of chairperson Jan Andrews and secretary Helen Haggart.
