Constable Stephen Glendinning told members of the Moffat Community Council this week that a woman in the area had received an email from somebody pretending to be from the government regarding winter fuel payments on November 22.
He added: “The email link led her to an online form which she has filled in, including her bank details.
“When shes tried to submit it, the site crashed. She later discovered some fraudulent transaction on her bank card.
“People need to be aware of the scams going around, especially at this time of year.”
