The Aldridges have used over 6000 Lego bricks to make a colourful wall in their home.
Mum and dad Phillipa and Sam consider themselves AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego) and while their three children have been off school due to the Covid-19 pandemic and summer holidays, they have spent time brightening up their home with tiny little bricks, wheels, ladders, windows, flowers and faces.
Sam said: “I took inspiration from seeing variations of Lego walls online, but added our own take on it. “Our kids, Logan 9, Conner 11 and Grace 12, all build Lego but in recent years tablets, mobiles and games consoles have taken over. The wall gave us a way of coming together again and having some fun.”
When they began their projects they were unsure how to adhere the blocks to the wall and Sam says they have used a mixture of ‘hope and some blu tack’ for the first two feet but have then had to screw it to the wall and hide the screws. The family is unsure how much time they have spent on their creation but Sam said: “Time flies when you’re having fun!”
Within the range of colours and designs throughout the installation the family have also included their names, Sam said: “I love seeing the kids’ names throughout the wall. They blend in, but when you catch sight of them it’s nice. “We have also included our daughter Arya into the wall. We lost Arya to a premature stillbirth in April 2018.”
The family has been appealing online for Lego donations to help them extend their build and recently won a Lego competition run by the toy company.
