Parenting trends revealed

KEY trends in parenting for the year ahead have been revealed and we’ve been mulling them over in the Be office.

TantrumXYZ, the website for tech-savvy, design-conscious parents, is predicting ten hot themes this year:
* An increase in the use of male nannies – or mannies – as more men opt for a job in childcare.
* Extended childminding when registered childminders club together to look after groups of children, giving more of a nursery experience.
* A move towards healthier chocolate treats for youngsters, which contain alternatives to processed sugar and dairy.
* More interest in gender neutral clothing and toys.
* An increase in parents choosing to home school their children.
* Flexible working for parents on the back of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s #WorkingForward campaign.
* Dads being featured more prominently in advertising and not just mums.
* An explosion of new apps, websites and gadgets created by parents for other parents – aka parenttech.
* Famous kids bloggers, vlogggers and reporters.
* Growing demand for high quality, low alcohol drinks, ideally with added health benefits.
The report is based on research with parenting influencers, early-adopters, the parenting business network and UK mums and dads.
Website editor Lisa Williams said: “These are the shifts we will see in the parenting world. They are in line with the societal shifts we see elsewhere, such as the move towards a more health-conscious, tech-savvy, and gender-neutral society.”
What do you think, will you be embracing any of the trends?
