PC Emily is on the Miss Cumbria beauty beat

A POLICE constable from Annan is set to trade in her uniform for a tiara when she competes to be Miss Cumbria 2016.

Emily Conroy, 22, has made it to the final of the annual beauty pageant, which is open to women who live or work within a 50 mile radius of Cumbria.
After nominating herself a few months ago, Emily was over the moon the make the final.
She said: “This is the first time I’ve ever taken part in something like this and I’m quite nervous but so excited at the same time.”
Emily won’t walk the catwalk until November when she will have to dazzle the judges in four rounds – sportswear, evening wear, party wear and eco wear – to be in with the chance of wearing the winner’s crown.
But it’s not just judges that the PC needs to win over, as the public also have a say on who walks away the winner.
She said: The winner of Miss Cumbria 2016 will be decided by the main judging panel combined with the result of a public vote.
“Details of how the public can vote will be made available on my Miss Cumbria page on Facebook.
“Facebook ‘likes’ and views also go a long way in this competition so I hope people can take a spare minute to have a look.”
She added: “We fundraise for the Variety charity, this is a children’s charity that works to help improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people up to the age of 19 years across the UK.
“I will be organising fundraising events so any loose change/ donations would be appreciated muchly.”
Discussing why winning would mean so much, she said: “It would mean a great deal to me if I won, I’ve always dreamed of taking part in something like this from a very young age.
“It would feel great to be a role model for younger girls, to create a sense of positively for them and to help them find that inner confidence to take part in something like this themselves.”
The final takes place on November 12 at Harraby Community Theatre.
